Cotton exports growth 3.1 percent during fiscal year 2007

FAISALABAD (November 13, 2007): The export of cotton yarn is diverting from US and Hong Kong to China and EU countries, while Cotton Fabrics export is diverting from US to EU, Bangladesh, Turkey and India. According to official statistical analysis, cotton yarn exports depicted a nominal growth of 3.1 percent during FY07 compared with robust growth of 30.9 percent in FY06.

Pakistan will miss cotton output target by two million bales: USDA

KARACHI (November 13, 2007): The United State Department of Agriculture (USDA) has predicted that Pakistan will miss its cotton production by about two million bales, as the mealy bug and cotton leaf curl virus (CLCV) has badly hit the crop.

Improved phutti supplies ease prices on cotton market

KARACHI (November 13, 2007): Prices showed modest fall as phutti supplies improved on the cotton market on Monday, dealers said. The Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) official spot rate was unchanged at Rs 3175, dealers said. In Sindh phutti was at Rs 1525-1550 and in Punjab it was at Rs 1575-1625, dealers said.

Cotton buying spree continues pushing prices up, lint at Rs 3350, spot at Rs 3175

KARACHI (November 12, 2007): The sellers are predicting cotton output at 13 million bales, but consumers are opting for buying irrespective of asking prices which today prevail around Rs 3075 and Rs 3350 owing to record prices of Sindh and Punjab Phutti.

Crop shortage fears ignite cotton prices

LAHORE (November 09, 2007): Growing fears of cotton shortage in the country has resulted in increase of lint prices by Rs 410 to Rs 450 per maund (37.32 kgs) in Sindh over the last couple of months and by Rs 500 to Rs 525 per maund in Punjab since early September 2007.

Spot rate jumps to Rs 3125, lint price touches Rs 3250 mark

KARACHI (November 07, 2007): Activity picked up on the cotton market on Tuesday as most of the mills were interested in the new buying in anticipation of further rise in the prices. Spot rate jumped by Rs 50 to Rs 3125 and cotton was trading in ready at Rs 3250, dealers said.

Cotton arrival at ginning factories reaches 4.2 million bales

ISLAMABAD (November 07, 2007): Cotton arrivals at the ginning factories, recorded on November 1, has reached 4.2 million bales while on October 15 it was 2.4 million bales. The cotton arrivals from Punjab are recorded at 2.7 million, whereas 1.4 million bales have arrived from Sindh.

MULTAN (November 06, 2007): Ginners are feeling unsafe due to growing incidents of robberies, daylight dacoities and deteriorating law and order situation in the country, said Suhail Mehmood Haral, Chairman of PCGA in his statement. Rates in ready to above Rs 3200 and Phutti in Sindh was quoted at Rs 1550 and Rs 1625 and in Punjab at Rs 1600 and Rs 1700 until Wednesday.

FAISALABAD (November 03, 2007): Expressing grave concern over shortage of cotton yarn and rise in its price, members and office-bearers of All Pakistan Cotton Powerlooms Association (APCPA) cautioned that if immediate remedial measures to combat the impending crisis in the textile sector were not adopted, more that one million wage-earners would be thrown out of jobs.

MULTAN (November 01, 2007): Annual General Meeting of Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) held here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Suhail Mehmood Haral. Only 10 members attended the meeting. A number of PCGA members bitterly criticised the unfair inclusion of ginneries in Clean Cotton programme and obliging the 'haves" and neglecting the "have nots".
